I SOLISTI – FACE Symphony Orchestra 20th Anniversary Concert Feb 2018

On February 21, 2018, FACE School will celebrate the 20th Anniversary of our school’s musical flagship: the FACE Symphony Orchestra or Orchestre symphonique de FACE (OSF).

Featuring FACE Alumni, among them international cellist Stéphane Tétreault and Vancouver Symphony concert master Boson Mo, the OSF will showcase the talent of its current and former students in a varied programme of Chamber concertos under the direction of Artistic Director and Founder Theodora Stathopoulos. As a special tribute to its founding times, guest conductor and co-founder Airat Ichmouratov will be conducting the OSF in the second part in Brahms, Dvorak and Saint-Saëns.

Created in 1998 as a community orchestra where music department tutors mentored FACE students and played with them in the orchestra alongside musicians from the community, the first years saw the participation of just a handful of FACE students. Within just a few years, more and more FACE students became motivated to excel and join this ensemble. Now the complete string section (70 violins, violas, cellos and basses) is entirely made up of FACE students, some as young as 10 years old. What’s more, for the last 10 years it is current FACE string students who made up the leadership of each section. It is noteworthy that the 13-year old OSF concertmaster of the anniversary season is the youngest in its 20-year history!

The event will take place in the beautiful FACE school Auditorium and the public is invited to celebrate this remarkable achievement! We look forward to seeing you at the 20thanniversary celebrations of the OSF, starting at 4:30 pm on February 21, 2018 at FACE school, 3449 University St. in Montreal. Tickets can be purchased in advance at www.fondationface.ca or at the door on the day of the concerts.
